Unusual cause of gas line rupture investigated

What caused a rupture in an underground gas line, affecting 4,500 people in the Melfort area is still not known.

Casey MacLeod with SaskEnergy said the pieces of the broken pipe have been collected and will be reassembled as part of the investigation into what caused hundreds of people in Melfort, Kinistino and St. Brieux as well as areas in between to lose heat on January 10.

“We’ll be going through data and (other pieces of information) and putting together a picture of what could have caused this,” she said Thursday.
