Trouble-shooting and lightning

Last week was a busy one for La Junta’s Line Crew and Water Department. During a lightning storm, a tree at the Industrial Park was split in two and a strike at the north tank of the water department took out the radio control there, said Tom Seaba, director of water and wastewater.

About 1:47 a.m. Sunday, the line crew started looking for what had taken out all the power on the east loop (east of Colorado Avenue), said Rick Gumke, line crew foreman. “We didn’t find it until the sun came up and we saw a tilted manhole cover behind Colorado Bank & Trust.”…read more
