The 811 Car: A New Damage Prevention Icon

The 811 Bike has become a recognized damage prevention icon since its unveiling in 2011. As the Bike travels to various events and conferences, it helps spread the 811 message across the nation. Paul Teutul Jr., of Paul Junior Designs (PJD), incorporated the 811 phone number alongside common tools of excavation, such as backhoe buckets, a full-size shovel blade and handle and pickaxes into the 811 Bike’s design. The easily recognized “tools of the trade” make the Bike an ideal conversation starter on the topic of damage prevention.

One Call Concepts, Inc. (OCC) is pleased to announce the release of a new icon for damage prevention: the 811 Car. Built by the same team that delivered the 811 Bike, the 811 Car was unveiled October 19, 2016 at the Greater Chesapeake Damage Prevention Training Conference (GCDPTC) in Ocean City, Maryland. Hundreds of people attended the highly anticipated unveiling, while thousands more watched the event live via Facebook.

The 811 Car is a specially customized Callaway Corvette SC757 Z06, super-charged with 757 horse-power and 777 lbs-ft of torque. With cuttingedge mechanical customizations, the vehicle can go from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds. Paul Jr. incorporated similar symbols of excavation into the 811 Car’s design to make the vehicles thematically similar. He said, “This is the first time I’m seeing the two [vehicles] together… and it’s like a pair made in heaven. We’re very proud of it.”

Current plans call for the 811 Bike and Car to travel the nation together, continuing the Bike’s tradition of teaching new audiences about the importance of protecting our underground infrastructure. As stated by the Common Ground Alliance (CGA), underground utility damage prevention is a
shared responsibility. Together, we can reduce the number of underground damages that occur on a day-to-day basis. Keep an eye out for the 811 Car’s next public appearance at the 2017 CGA 811 Excavation Safety Conference & Expo, March 14-16 in Orlando, Florida.
