Shane Keyser

The Giving Back department was developed to highlight individuals who are involved in charitable activities outside of work and to spotlight the organizations they are involved with. This issue, however, Damage Prevention Professional would like to use this space to share Shane Keyser’s story.

Tragically, Shane Keyser, a PG&E Gas Compliance Rep out of Redding, California, was the victim of a fatal crash with a semi-truck on April 28, 2018, while traveling back to his home in Cottonwood after assisting in preparations for an upcoming IBEW/PG&E Gas Rodeo event.

“Not only do locating technicians frequently cross streets and walk among traffic in the performance of their duties, but they can also easily spend half of their working hours driving within their assigned territories. Both activities expose technicians and the public they serve to high levels of risk.”

Road safety has always been a top hazard for professionals in the underground locating industry. Keyser was a well-known face in the industry, competing at Gas Rodeos and even making it to the National Utility Locate Rodeo in 2016. He was a volunteer coach for the local football team and active in 4H. Shane is survived by his wife, Michelle, and three young children.
