During the fall and winter many people use natural gas to heat their homes and use appliances. Maintaining and checking natural gas systems in your home before heavy use during these colder seasons is important to ensure safety.
Robert Young, a foreman with National Fuel says “ you want to make sure you have your furnaces and hot water tanks and any gas appliances checked to make sure they’re firing properly.”
On the outside of the house, Young says to make sure any ventilation system, furnaces or intakes in your home are clear and free. This is especially important during the winter as snow can pile up. Another tip is calling 811 before digging anywhere near your home. It’s a free service that marks where it is and is not safe to dig in your yard.
