Report details how Newport gas outage occurred, places responsibility on utilities for cost

Oct. 30–NEWPORT – The Rhode Island Division of Public Utilities and Carriers determined the cause of the gas service outage on Aquidneck Island in January was the result of a low-pressure condition on the “G-System” branch of the Algonquin pipeline, according to the agency’s report released Wednesday.

And the DPUC is likely to place the responsibility on National Grid and Enbridge to cover the costs associated with the outage.

The DPUC noted National Grid may seek approval from the agency for recovery from ratepayers of any of the costs the company incurred related to the outage, according to the DPUC’s statement, but the DPUC is unlikely to approve the request…read more
