Ian is Managing Director of Lambert Locations, Australia’s premier specialist in all areas of underground service locations and damage prevention of underground assets with all works carried out in accordance with AS5488-2019 ‘Classification of Subsurface Utility Information’. He is a licensed Plumber, Drainer and Gasfitter and has been in the construction industry for almost 40 years.
Ian is currently President of The National Utility Locating Contractors Association (NULCA). NULCA’s formation represents a concerted effort by a few dedicated persons determined to establish standards for all areas of Australia’s locating industry. The NULCA committee is working hard to establish networking possibilities and the world’s best practice for every company and individual involved in any area to do with locating underground utilities.
Ian is a current board member of Dial Before You Dig Victoria/Tasmania representing the non-asset owner category, a position he has held for over 5 years. He is also a DBYD Certified Locator Assessor. This process is now a requirement to be Telstra and Optus Accredited nationally. He has since been elected on the DCL Board of Directors in July 2018. He holds a cert iv in training and assessing and delivers locator training.
On June 12, 2013, Standards Australia launched a new Standard (5488) which has – for the first time – outlined a consistent approach towards the classification of information relating to subsurface utilities.
Ian was also an integral part of a second committee and was instrumental during the process for the upgrade of the revised standard released May 6 2019.
