Paying it Forward through Safety and Good Will

FIVE YEARS AGO , Damage Prevention Professional met the Construction Angels at the first 811 Run in West Palm Beach, Florida. Construction Angels is a “non-profit organization created to facilitate access to financial services for immediate surviving family members of a construction worker who has lost their life while working on a jobsite.” Proceeds from the 811 Run were donated to Construction Angels after the event. It was a great way for the damage prevention industry to give back to an organization that supports those we work so hard to protect every day.

Construction Angels is a South Floridabased non-profit with affiliates in Georgia, Ohio and Michigan. They serve as a facilitator of financial benefits and grief services for surviving family members and rely primarily on donations, where 80% of the money is given to families in need. In order to help as many families as they can, people are encouraged to volunteer. If you are interested in donating your time, visit ConstructionAngels.us to fill out the volunteer form.

This year, Infrastructure Resources created an opportunity in the Exhibit Hall at the 2018 CGA 811 Excavation Safety Conference & Expo for attendees to easily donate directly to the Construction Angels organization. As an added incentive, all donors were eligible to win a full Conference pass to the 2019 CGA 811 Excavation Safety Conference & Expo being held in Tampa, March 26-28. Marc Worth of SCANA was one of the many attendees who generously donated and won the pass! A sincere thank you to everyone who contributed to this great cause.

We all know how important safety is to the industry and for the people we work side-by-side with every day. We encourage you to find an organization or volunteer for a cause that means something to you. Whether it’s industry related or not, one small gesture can mean the world to someone and may just change their entire day. We are all in this together.

Many people in our industry are involved in charitable activities. We want to pay tribute to them and spotlight the organization they support, hoping to inspire others to get involved with charitable organizations they are passionate about. Please send your “Giving Back” story to Michele@ emailir.com.
