Mayor, Workers Concerned with Response to Medford Gas Leak

Unionized workers from United Steelworkers Local 12012 and Mayor Stephanie M. Burke have some serious concerns about gas work that was performed at the intersection of Clark and George Street last week.

On Aug. 22, National Grid deployed non-unionized contract workers from USIC to investigate a potential gas leak on Clark Street. But locked-out, unionized workers from USW Local 12012 and United Steel Workers Local 12003 believe the work performed was insufficient and unsafe.

Ultimately, a union worker on site detected a grade-one gas leak – which are the most hazardous and require immediate attention – on Aug. 29, according to John Buonopane, president of USW Local 12012. The worker then informed the Medford Fire Department…(Read the full story)
