Locator Safety Awareness Week Recap

This summer, many stakeholders in the damage prevention community took part in the 4th Annual Locator Safety Awareness Week (LSAW) from June 18 – June 24.  Established in 2014 by Infrastructure Resources and  endorsed by Nulca, LSAW addresses the need to keep our locators safe on the job. Social media was the name of the same this year. More than 30 organizations from around the United States and Canada helped promote  wareness of the hazards related to  utility locating by posting a variety of messages on their social media channels leading up to and throughout this special week.

At LocatorSafety.com, a wide variety of tools were free for the taking. The tools included web buttons featuring marking flags with the APWA uniform color codes,  composed social media messages for Facebook and Twitter, safety awareness cards for organizations to give to their locators and a downloadable 11 x 17 poster emphasizing the Top 10 Safety Hazards a locator should be aware of throughout the course of their day.

A sincere thank you to all of the organizations who participated in this year’s social media push in an effort to show our collective appreciation for the difficult, challenging and sometimes dangerous work that our utility locators perform. We know that tens of thousands were reached with the #LSAW message. At Infrastructure Resources, our social media posts on LinkedIn and Twitter generated nearly 11,000  impressions and 120 social engagements. Most importantly, though, we want to again express our sincere gratitude to our utility locators for keeping us safe through the work they do. Although LSAW is but once a year, we encourage everyone to show their appreciation all year long.
