Excavator speaks out, Gold Shovel Standard fails

Fenton Twp. — At the Monday, Jan. 6 meeting, the Fenton Township Board of Trustees voted 6-0 against adopting an ordinance that would have required contractors to provide proof that they participate in the Gold Shovel Standard (GSS) to do underground work.

The Genesee County Drain Commissioner’s Water and Waste Services Division (GCDC) recently joined GSS, an organization that aims to reduce damages to underground infrastructure, and the county sent the ordinance to the Fenton Township Board.
