Excavation-Related Damages to Utilities Cost the U.S. Approximately $30 Billion in 2019

The Common Ground Alliance’s annual DIRT Report reveals that utility damages continue to trend upward, despite construction spending remaining flat

Washington (Oct. 14, 2020) – Common Ground Alliance (CGA), the national nonprofit trade association dedicated to protecting underground utility lines, people who dig near them and their communities, today announced the findings from its 2019 Damage Information Reporting Tool (DIRT) Report.

The Report analyzed all 2019 data submitted voluntarily by facility operators, utility locating companies, one call centers, contractors, regulators and others from the U.S. and Canada using an in-depth statistical modeling process.
