Damage Prevention Hero – Andrea Stainback

A True Partner in the Damage Prevention Process

Andrea Stainback is the Network Cost Recovery Damage Billing Manager at Century Link, but is best known to her peers in the damage prevention industry for her work as Chairperson of the North American Telecommunications Damage Prevention Council (NTDPC) and member of the CGA DIRT Committee.

Getting consistent representation from the telecommunications stakeholders used to be a struggle, but now Andrea actually holds some of the NTDPC quarterly meetings in conjunction with the CGA Educational Programs meetings.”

Through her passion, hard work and dedication, telecommunications stakeholders have taken on a more active role in vital industry groups, such as the CGA Educational Programs Committee. “CGA’s goal is to hear all stakeholder voices and ideas, especially as we work on new projects within the Educational Programs Committee,” said Scott Landes, president of Infrastructure Resources and member of the committee for more than 10 years. “Getting consistent representation from the telecommunications stakeholders used to be a struggle, but now Andrea actually holds some of the NTDPC quarterly meetings in conjunction with the CGA Educational Programs meetings.”

Andrea has also been an active member of the Telecom Advisory Board for the CGA 811 Excavation Safety Conference & Expo, consistently offering suggestions for content and speakers. Her role is critical for the success of the conference, keeping the educational seminars and sessions topical and valuable for attending telecommunications stakeholders. In addition, Andrea is an active participant in the Fiber Optic Asset Protection Critical Industry Summit that is held at the annual event.

In looking for words to describe Andrea, Ron Peterson, Executive Director of Nulca, probably said it best, “Her tenacity! Andrea is relentless and when she gets onto something, she will stick with it and not let go before completion.” Peterson also praised her for her professional approach and her commitment to getting CGA’s messages to all Telco industry stakeholders.

Outside of the office and the meeting rooms, Andrea has also been a huge advocate of 811 Runs and has facilitated CenturyLink’s support of many damage prevention and safety awareness events. “Andrea is always willing to help and pitch in for the common good,” said Tammy Wilfong, Verizon Senior Manager Network Engineering & Operations. “She inspires and motivates people to work towards the common goal of damage prevention.”

And if all of this isn’t enough, Andrea finds time to contribute Telecommunications-related articles on a regular basis to both Damage Prevention Professional and the Excavation Safety Guide. As Michele Moe, Editor of Damage Prevention Professional, put it, “Andrea is a true partner in the damage prevention process… and a true Damage Prevention Hero.”
