Column: We Should Prepare Now for the Next Utility Emergency

It’s been over a month since gas leaks and explosions rocked our community, ending a young man’s life and leaving thousands temporarily homeless. I am one of the many still waiting on my gas to get restored.
While the past month has been tough for my family and me, I know that it’s been much harder for those without the network and resources we have. It’s also been much harder for the small business owners who have lost over a month’s worth of revenue and are worried about whether they’ll have to lay off employees or even close up shop entirely.
