CGA Launches New 811 Video Challenge

Earlier this year, CGA recognized the 10th anniversary of the 811 phone number with a celebration at the CGA Annual Meeting and Conference that featured the culmination of the inaugural 811 Video Challenge. CGA
received more than 30 entries from CGA members who were challenged by their fellow members, creating friendly competition for top honors.

Members of the task team that reviewed these videos were impressed by their creativity, humor and powerful messages about the importance of 811 in keeping our communities safe and connected.

Given the success of the inaugural campaign, CGA was excited to launch the Second Annual 811 Video Challenge over the summer!

This year’s 811 Video Challenge will celebrate the past and look toward the future of damage prevention by requiring all submitted videos to include the creation of a time capsule. Each video must include a description of the capsule – which must include 11 historical items and eight items/ideas about the future of damage prevention – along with a burial event (including
a call to 811, of course!).

Full information, including deadlines, frequently asked questions, submission directions and official rules, may be found at Be sure to call 811 before digging to bury your time capsule!

To get things started, CGA challenged the eight organizations that received special recognition for their videos in the first 811 Video Challenge. These organizations should post a 10-second acceptance video on social media using the hashtag #811videochallenge and challenge an industry peer to help this campaign top last year’s in number of submissions. The 811 Time Capsule Video Challenge is open to all CGA members, regardless of whether they are challenged or not.

Some burial events took place on Aug. 11, while many others will use the fall planting and DIY seasons as media hooks. All videos are due by Nov. 8 (8-1-1 backwards on the calendar).
