Buildings Evacuated After Gas Leak Is Discovered in Westport: FD

Fire officials said surrounding buildings were evacuated Monday morning after a gas leak was discovered in Westport.
According to a news release, Westport firefighters responded to a report of a loud “hissing” noise on Jesup
Green, which is located on Jesup Road in front of the Westport Library, around 11 a.m. Officials said first responders reported a high pressure gas line had been cut.
“It was discovered that a tent crew had allegedly struck the line while setting up tents for an event this past weekend,” Assistant Chief Matthew Cohen said in a release. “The leak did not become evident until the company returned to remove the large tent stake…”(Read the full story)
