Bill aims to fix loophole in Maine ‘Dig Safe’ law after deadly Farmington explosion

After the deadly explosion in Farmington, a bill aimed at preventing another similar tragedy is a step closer to becoming law.

The Maine Legislature unanimously passed a bill to bring propane lines into the “Dig Safe” program.

Investigators say a company working outside the LEAP building hit a propane line.

Dig Safe laws prohibit digging around certain underground utility lines, but currently in Maine, propane lines aren’t on the list.

The bill is now awaiting Governor Janet Mills’ signature.
