As temperatures plunge, Kalamazoo public works look for water main breaks

Winter has struck and when the Arctic air comes the 100-year-old cast iron water mains in Kalamazoo shift and move.

“We have been preparing since September for winter operations, winter maintenance and everything in that regards,” Kalamazoo Public Services Director James Baker said.

Baker knows all too well how much damage the bitter cold can cause.
