911 service down in Saline County, throughout central Kansas

Saline County was among 26 counties in central Kansas that lost 911 service Saturday evening after a major fiber optic cable that provided emergency phone service was cut, according to Capt. Mike Sweeney, of the Salina Police Department.
Police were asking county residents who needed police to call the department’s administrative line at 826-7210.
He said it’s hard to estimate the number of 911 calls that could be affected by the outage in Saline County alone. He said the number of calls received on the emergency line varies substantially from night to night.
