Beach City Utility Worker Freed from Collapsed Trench

Beach City, a village utility worker repairing a water main break was rescued by emergency crews Thursday afternoon after his leg became pinned when the trench he was working in began to collapse.

Beach City Fire Chief Bill Anderson said village utility crews were working at Main Street East and Second Avenue NE repairing a water main break when the sides of a trench began to give way around 12:51 p.m.

A worker’s leg became trapped and water from the break was quickly filling the hole, he said.
