1 Million Gallons of Raw Sewage Could Be Headed to White Rock Lake

About 1 million gallons of raw sewage that spilled from a broken wastewater pipe is flowing toward White Rock Lake in Dallas, the North Texas Municipal Water District said Thursday.

The pipe ruptured at about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday as a construction crew was working near a Toyota dealership on Preston Road in Plano, the water district said in a news release.

The pipeline was repaired about 2:30 a.m. Thursday, but not before approximately 1 million gallons of raw sewage overflowed into White Rock Creek. That point of the creek is about 12 miles to White Rock Lake.

The spill did not impact potable water systems, but the water district is assessing environmental impacts. White Rock Lake is not a water supply source for Dallas Water Utilities, according to the water district…(Read the full story)
