Gas leak near London’s Covent Garden and Leicester Square forces dozens to be evacuated and roads to be closed

Dozens of people have been rushed to safety after a suspected gas leak at a central London tourist hot spot.

Around 100 people were evacuated from Covent Garden and homes in the surrounding area as firefighters placed it into lockdown.

Witnesses said Leicester Square was also affected by the leak, with huge tailbacks building up in the area.

Images from Transport for London show four fire engines outside Covent Garden tube station, as firefighters continued to deal with the situation three hours after they were called.

Cadent gas claimed responsibility for the leak and said it was ‘working to locate and repair the gas escape as soon as possible’…(Read the full story)
