Meriam Street in Lexington Center closed after water main struck

Water filled the Lexington Visitors’ Center front lawn Friday morning, Dec. 15, spilling into Meriam Street. Firefighters, Lexington Department of Public Works officials and police flocked to the scene to locate the problem, to try to shut off the water, and to block off Meriam Street.
The water spilled out when a crew from Geosearch hit a water main on the Visitors’ Center property sometime before 9 a.m. Engineers from McPhail Associates were also on hand to oversee the operation.
The digging was part of assessing the land around the Visitors’ Center, one step involved in developing a design plan for a new Visitors’ Center.
