Downtown Brockton excavation causes collapse of wall protecting tracks

A retaining wall that protects the commuter rail track around the downtown Brockton MBTA station was damaged by an excavator hired by a neighboring business to expand its parking lot, according to the city building inspector and state officials.
On Friday, an MBTA-hired contractor was replacing soil that was removed from the wall protecting the train tracks next to Avon Auto Brokers 2, said a spokesperson for the state transportation agency.
