Excavation blamed for retaining wall collapse which forced resident evacuation

Excavators “dug too deeply” at a site south of Brisbane before a retaining wall collapsed, forcing the evacuation of 15 people at the weekend.
Many of the residents at the site, in Middle Street, Cleveland, are from public housing and were put up in hotels in the nearby area.
Emergency services were called to the site about 2pm on Saturday after the construction site became “compromised”, according to a spokeswoman for the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service.
