A private contractor hit a natural gas line Thursday afternoon while digging to replace fiber optic cable in north Colorado Springs, said Capt. Steve Wilch, spokesman for the Colorado Springs Fire Department.
The line was hit about 1:20 p.m. at 2025 Telstar Drive, in a commercial area near Voyager and Research parkways. The line was less than two inches.
It took hazmat and Colorado Springs Utilities crews just under an hour to reach the gas line and clamp it off, Wilch said.
Nearby businesses were evaluated for safety issues, but none were identified. There were no evacuations.
