UPDATE POSTED 6/26/17 AT 8:00 A.M.
Residents of the villages of Newark and Lisbon and those with a Lisbon or Newark phone prefix were without 9-1-1 service from Saturday morning until 4 a.m. Sunday morning and officials now say that was a result of a fiber optic cut to an AT&T telephone line at Sheryl Rd. and Route 47.
That line connects the Newark and Lisbon exchanges to the Morris AT&T telephone office, which hosts the two communities.
The cut was apparently caused by construction at the intersection.
AT&T Crews worked overnight to repair the fiber optic line and KenCom dispatchers were placed at both the Newark and Lisbon Fire Departments to answer and relay emergency 911 calls during the outage.
We have received a report that the phone lines for the residents in the 695 phone area including Newark and Millington are not working due to a cut cable.
Residents can call locally to 695 phone numbers but are reportedly not able to call out.
The 911 service is currently not working due to the outage.
Residents are encouraged to use cellular phones for any emergency calls.
