RIVERSIDE, Mo. — Park Hill South High School students were dismissed early on Monday due to a water main break near High Drive and Hermosa Drive.
The school sent out a notification of the action to close the school at 11:45 a.m.
A steady stream of water ran down a hill and onto the street at High Drive and Hermosa, near the school. Fire Chief Gordon Fowlson told FOX 4 the break was in a 12-inch water main, and it’s left the entire school without any water.
The loss of water also affects the fire suppression system, leaving the school vulnerable should a fire break out.
“What happened was a contractor that’s working for the school district to put fiber optic line, we believe hit the water main right in the same area that they were doing their work,” Fowlson said.
