Wireless customers in Topeka may be experiencing problems after city workers cut through a fiber optics cable Thursday.
The Topeka water crews mistook a fiber optics cable for an old gas main near S.W. 17th and McAlsiter Avenue, according to a news release from the city of Topeka. The cable was encased in a 2-inch cast, which is unusual according to the release.
The error wasn’t noticed until after the line already was cut through.
According to deputy city manager Doug Gerber, the city has made “appropriate notifications” and apologizes for any inconveniences.
The release didn’t say what wireless technologies — such as phone and Internet — or which wireless providers were affected.
