Landline and some cellphone and Internet service was disrupted for about eight hours Tuesday over six counties in southwest Texas, including Brewster.
Like an outage four weeks ago, the Alpine police department was the only emergency service in the area not affected so it handled 911 emergency calls from Brewster, Presidio, Jeff Davis, Pecos, Culberson and Hudspeth counties.
Brewster County Emergency Management Coordinator Matt Van Ostrand said most service was restored by 9 p.m. and all services were back up “a short time later.”
The break occurred about 12:45 p.m. Tuesday in Odessa and affected most landline and AT&T wireless phones.
Phones using other carriers were not affected, he said.
Van Ostrand said a similar outage Oct. 21 was caused by a cable being cut in Midland.
He said anyone digging anywhere should call 811 to learn where buried lines are. A quick check could eliminate such outages.
